The Pape Clement is one of the stars of the vintage, which is not surprising given this estate's performances over the last years. A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, it exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color along with a beautifully sweet, graphite-scented nose with hints of black currants, Asian plum sauce, soy and forest floor. Needs time to soften. Great potential. Try in Very chewy, with wonderful blueberry and mineral character. Hints of mint too.
Full and super classy. Love the texture of the tannins. Hyper-refined in texture. Very dark with even a hint of brown.
Direct and leathery on the nose. Then very sweet - almost right-bank sweetness - but then it returns to acidity and fine tannin.
A dramatic even if not-that-comfortable wine. Almost too drying on the finish but it works in the end. Slightly tarry finish.
Not the most succulent. Owner Bernard Magrez has made serious investments here since the late 's and recent vintages have been outstanding thanks to extremely low yields, labour-intensive sorting of grapes and modern wine-making techniques.
The nose is wonderfully smoky and tarry with lots of sexy new oak. There is masses of black cherry fruit on the palate with creme de cassis and vanilla notes.
Big, plush and plump, this Pape Clement is ripe and modern but it's classically Graves in style too. Opulent and complex.
It certainly packs a punch. The fruit on the nose is very concentrated with the fleshy sweetness slightly overpowered by the tannins.
Black cherry and sloe enrich the middle but behind are tough slightly aggressive tannins that give a bitter dusty dry feel on the finish.
It seems to be lacking a bit of balance and harmony. Superb concentration of ripe Cabernet fruit, slightly smoky, potentially very complex, wonderful presence and richness on the palate, ripeness and tannins in complete harmony, very good indeed and a great future.

There is intense ripeness on the nose here with attractive cassis and opulent vanilla and spice. Intense on the palate with genuine ripeness and a sexy, rounded, supple style.
Silky tannins and touches of kirsch, coconut cream and cherries. Smooth and impressive without being extracted.
Densely packed, with lots of dark steeped currant, fig and blackberry fruit, slowly melding with muscular licorice snap, bramble, singed bay and ganache notes.
The long, dark, ganache-coated finish isn't shy, but an enticing rusticity keeps this honest. A largescaled wine that has really powered up since the barrel tasting.
Best from through The nose is full and fat with lots of sweet fruit and the ripeness of the flavours gives a rich feel on the start of the palate.
The mid palate is fresher with bilberry and bramble and the tannins are quite obvious. Sweetness is there at the back giving the finish a fleshy richness.
A wine to admire rather than drink, at least in my view, this is super oaky, super dense and slightly cakey on the palate, with a hint of over-ripeness, even in a year like It's a very serious, inky blend with lots of concentration, but I can't help thinking it would taste better if it had been picked a few days earlier.

Give it two or three years to show what it has but already a beauty. This shows finesse and class of the vintage with pure blackberry and currant character.
Full body, fine tannins and a beautiful finish. Dark, sumptuous and creamy, it exudes class. Black cherry, mocha, spice, espresso, menthol and new leather are all pushed forward in a spherical, rich wine that captivates all the senses.
As always, this is an overt style, but the purity of the fruit comes through nicely now that the oak has started to integrate.
There is plenty of the Magrez trademark richness, but done in a slightly more restrained style than in the past. This is a gorgeous wine by any measure.
Tasted three times. Tasted blind. One of the first positively interesting noses for a while. Then a very dry finish. Owner Bernard Magrez has made serious investments here since the late 's and recent vintages have been outstanding thanks to extremely low yields, labour-intensive sorting of grapes and modern wine-making techniques.
Quality bears no relation to the weedy wines of the early 's and before. Deep purple colour. Black fruits on the nose with mulberry and exotic spice with a smoky toasty character.
The palate is rich and intense with black cherry, blackcurrant and roasted coffee.
